What Are The Materials Of Transformers

Given the regulatory role of transformers in the power system, technicians must select suitable transformers to complete installation operations in order to perform their normal functions. The winding material is the primary issue that needs to be paid attention to during transformer installation, and the role played by devices made of different materials is different. For wound transformers, due to the special structure of the device, materials such as enameled wire, gauze wrapped wire, silk wrapped wire, and paper wrapped wire are selected for installation, which can exert good conductivity and thermal conductivity, and superior corrosion resistance also enhances the stability of the circuit. From the existing transformer products, the winding materials used in transformer installation generally include iron core materials, insulation materials, impregnation materials, etc. The installation personnel must choose based on the actual situation.
(1) Iron core material. Transformers rely on the principle of electromagnetic induction to regulate the current and voltage values, and the iron core is the core component of the transformer, whose material condition determines its regulating function. It is best to add silicon to the iron core material to reduce the conductivity and thermal conductivity of the steel sheet and avoid increasing energy consumption after the device is running. The power industry standards stipulate that the magnetic flux density of silicon steel sheets must be controlled within an effective range, such as the magnetic flux density of black iron sheets at 7000 and low silicon sheets at 10000. The installation site can be selected based on actual situations.
(2) Insulation material. In recent years, the incidence of accidents during transformer installation operations has been continuously increasing. Considering the safety issues during transformer installation, on-site personnel need to pay attention to the selection of insulation materials to protect the normal operation of other equipment in the system. At present, many transformers are equipped with insulation components, such as gaskets, insulation tools, etc. However, due to improper human operation, there are still safety risks. The installation of transformers requires enhancing their insulation performance through isolation between coil frame layers, isolation between winding resistances, and other aspects.
(3) Impregnated materials. Impregnation treatment is the final process of processing winding materials, with the main purpose of improving the mechanical, electrical, and insulation properties of the materials, and avoiding various safety accidents during later use. After selecting the winding material, the installation personnel should apply paint to the impregnating material and set an insulation layer on the surface of the material. The commonly used paint material is cresol varnish, which can play a good safety role after brushing treatment, extending the service life of transformer equipment.
