What to do when the power transformer overheats

Reduce the load

Check the load equipment connected to the transformer. If there is too much or unnecessary load, it should be appropriately reduced so that it works within the rated load range of the transformer.

Check ventilation

Make sure there is good ventilation around the transformer and no obstacles block the air circulation. If necessary, install a fan to enhance ventilation and heat dissipation.

Clean the transformer

Dust and debris may accumulate on the surface of the transformer, affecting heat dissipation. Use a clean dry cloth to remove dust and debris.

Check the connection

Confirm whether the connection between the input and output terminals is firm. Poor contact will increase resistance and generate excessive heat.

Stop cooling

If the overheating is serious, stop using it immediately and let the transformer cool down naturally for a period of time to avoid damage caused by continuous overheating.

Check the winding

There may be a short circuit or partial short circuit in the winding, which requires professional personnel to use test instruments to detect and repair.

Check the core

Core failures such as core short circuit and loose core may also cause overheating and require maintenance.

Replace the transformer

If the transformer is seriously aged or still frequently overheats after inspection and repair, it may be necessary to replace it with a new transformer of appropriate specifications.

If necessary, please contact Huipu Electronics.
