Structure of Inductor Coil

1. Winding
It is the core structure of Inductor Coil, which is made of tightly wound insulated wire. Common insulated wires include enameled wire. The number of turns, winding method and wire specifications of the winding have a significant impact on the performance of Inductor Coil. The more turns, the greater the inductance; different winding methods, such as single-layer winding, multi-layer winding and honeycomb winding, will make the coil present different characteristics in inductance, distributed capacitance and quality factor. For example, single-layer winding has small distributed capacitance and is suitable for high-frequency circuits; multi-layer winding has large inductance and is often used in low-frequency circuits.
2. Magnetic core
Located inside the Inductor Coil, it is mostly made of magnetic materials such as ferrite and silicon steel sheets. The existence of the magnetic core greatly increases the inductance of the Inductor Coil because its magnetic permeability is much higher than that of air. Different magnetic core materials have unique magnetic properties and are suitable for different scenarios. Ferrite cores have high magnetic permeability and low loss at high frequencies and are often used in high-frequency circuits; silicon steel cores perform well in low-frequency, high-current environments.
3. Skeleton
It is used to support the winding, ensure the shape and position of the winding are stable, and also play the role of electrical insulation. Skeleton materials must have good insulation and mechanical strength, and common ones are plastics, ceramics, etc. In some specially designed inductor coils, such as high-frequency application scenarios, the skeleton may be omitted and the debonded coil may be directly wound to reduce the distributed capacitance.
4. Shielding cover
It is generally made of metal material and installed outside the inductor coil. Its main function is to prevent the magnetic field generated by the inductor coil from interfering with other electronic components, and to avoid the influence of external magnetic fields on the performance of the inductor coil. The use of shielding covers is particularly important in circuits with high requirements for electromagnetic compatibility.
5. Adjustable core or tap structures
Some inductor coils are also equipped with adjustable cores or tap structures to achieve flexible adjustment of inductance to meet the needs of different circuits. The various parts of the inductor coil work together to play a key role in circuit functions such as filtering, tuning, and energy storage.
